Romania’s Top Places to See
Romania is a fascinating country. It boasts a vibrant capital city, many charming medieval towns, a unique Delta, a Black Sea coast with many contrasts and a surprising mix of cultural and natural gems.
It has a captivating heart that pulses in history, culture and spirituality. Some uncharted mountains conceal wildlife, unimaginable natural treasures, and hamlets. Transylvania is a world-famous area whose links to vampires are a distant memory compared to its breathtaking natural beauty.
Transylvania
It is funny how many people don’t know where Romania is. However, they are familiar with Transylvania, the region whose history and Gothic castles inspired Bram Stoker, an Irish author, to set his vampire novel Dracula there. This stunning region is home to many more bleak landscapes and crumbling ruins.
While downright mysterious and eerie, Transylvania is full of art, culture, and stunning medieval towns. You will find tranquil, sun-drenched valleys surrounded by virgin forests and rolling hills sprinkled with Europe’s most impressive castles and fortified citadels.
Maramures
Maramures, a remote area in the north of Romania, seems far removed from the modern world. This remote, unspoiled land is known as a “rural fairytale“, according to Sarah Shuckburgh, a contributor to The Telegraph. It stands out because of its unique rural culture, UNESCO-protected medieval wood churches, and unspoiled bucolic charm.
Bucovina’s Painted Monasteries
Bucovina, also known as Bukovina, is divided between Ukraine and Romania. It’s a land of stunning natural scenery, villages suspended in time, and fascinating centuries-old traditions passed down through generations. The main attraction here is the incredible UNESCO-listed painted monasteries. However, it’s worth a visit just for its beauty.
The Painted Monasteries in Bucovina, located in northeastern Romania, is home to a magnificent collection of Byzantine jewels. They are adorned with stunning 15th and 16th-century frescoes depicting Old or New Testament scenes. Most of them were included on the UNESCO World Heritage List as masterpieces in mural art due to their authenticity, uniqueness, artistic value, and beautiful surroundings.

The Danube Delta
The Danube Delta, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, is one of the most beautiful places in Romania. It also has a unique variety of fauna and flora that is unique in Europe and possibly the world. Bucharest
Bucharest is a city that offers a wide range of cultural and nightlife experiences. It has many museums, theatres, opera houses, bars, and an impressive selection of expensive clubs. There is a lot to see and do. It also has all the good and bad of any ex-communist capital. But it also has a thirst for novelty and freedom. Although it’s not the safest city on Earth, this is a large, modern, bustling metropolis. This is not a small, idyllic village in Switzerland.
Architecture in the city is a fascinating mix of styles and eras. There are grand boulevards, cobbled streets with medieval architecture, Art Deco masterpieces, Art Deco masterpieces, Baroque palaces that bring life to the dull grey blocks, and obscene palaces. Ceausescu has curses and baroque palaces that add color.
The Black Sea Coast
The Black Sea Coast in Romania is nearly 275km long and includes many towns and resorts to suit all tastes and budgets. If you’re looking for a place to escape to the Romanian coast, Constanta is a great base. It has a busy port, many shops, bars, restaurants, and museums.
