GRENADA’S BEST THINGS
Grenada, located west of Trinidad and Tobago, is an idyllic island nation with beautiful harbors, sandy beaches, and rich history. It also has a lush, green landscape.
Things to Do in Grenada
The Spanish first discovered Grenada Island in 1523. It has a turbulent past. Britain and France contested it during the 17th and 18th centuries. The British held the title until 1974 when Grenada became independent.
It is today a vibrant tourism hub in the Caribbean Sea. Grenada has so many activities that you will want to return repeatedly. These are just a few of the many reasons to visit Grenada.
Grand Anse Beach
Forty-five sandy beaches surround the Island of Grenada. All are accessible to the public. There is the famous, three-kilometer-long Grand Anse Beach.
Grand Anse Beach, a 2-mile stretch of white sand beach, has restaurants, hotels, and colorful fishing boats. Grand Anse Beach can be found approximately 6 miles from St. George’s, Grenada’s southwest coast.
Other Grenada Beaches that I Recommend
Rent a four-wheel-drive vehicle to get some solitude and head for l’Ance aux Epines on the Island’s Southside. St. Patrick’s, located in the north of the Island, and St. David, located just a few kilometers east of St. George’s, are two other options for secluded beaches.
Morne Rouge Beach
Morne Rouge Beach offers quieter beaches. Although it is very close to Grand Anse Beach’s shores, it feels far away. It’s located on the Southwestern coast and is the ideal spot to watch the sunset.
Diamond Chocolate Factory
Grenada is the perfect place for chocolate lovers. Jouvay Chocolate now calls Diamond Chocolate Factory home. It was once a rum distillery. It’s home to some of the most popular chocolates on the Island. This is a great place to buy chocolate to take home.
House Of Chocolate
The House of Chocolate is another stop in St. George’s. The House of Chocolate in St. George’s is a charming chocolate shop with a museum and a cafe serving local pastries. If you order this delicious treat, add coconut ice cream or a side of Nutmeg to your chocolate cake.
Belmont Estate
Belmont Estate in Grenada is a unique destination and a must-see when you visit. It is also a must-see for chocolate lovers. Take the Reserve-Only Bean to Bar Chocolate Tour if you are visiting Belmont Estate.
The tour covers the entire lifecycle of a chocolate bar, from the moment it is harvested in the cocoa fields to the time it is consumed. It can be done within a few minutes. A three-course lunch is included as part of the tour, which includes chocolate.
You will be rewarded, regardless of which tour you choose, with a delicious selection of chocolates and a rich history in agrotourism.
Rum
Grenada, like its Caribbean neighbors, is a significant producer of Rum. Several distilleries on the Island, including Grenada Distillers, produce Clarks Court Rum.
It has operated since 1937 and is the largest and most well-known distillery on the Island. They produce and distribute spirits such as spiced rums, rum punch, coconut, and rum rums, among others. You can also shop for unique flavors and sample different rums in the showroom.
River Antoine Rum Distillery
A sought-after bottle can be purchased from River Antoine Rum. Although River Antoine Rum distillery cannot produce as much as it needs, the wait for a rare bottle is worth it.
Island Spice Tour
Grenada, also known as Spice Island, is home to many Caribbean spices, including Nutmeg, the most well-known Grenadian Spice. It is used in local recipes, Nutmeg juice, Nutmeg cream, perfumes, and beauty products.
Grenada is home to some of the Caribbean’s most fertile soils. It is rich in Nutmeg, cocoa, soursop, and banana palms.
One of the island tours will show you how spices are harvested and processed. Visit the Gouyave Nutmeg Processing Station to see how Nutmeg gets processed and exported all over the globe.
Laura’s Herb and Spice Garden
Laura’s Herb and Spice Garden is an excellent spot for a truly unique experience. It allows you to see the entire Island’s growing process. Walking along the trails, enjoy the exotic scents of fresh herbs, spices, and vegetation.
Wild sorrel plants are available in the latter part of the year. They are used in juice drinks, Rum, and other beverages. You can also pick up spices at the gift shop.
There are many options for accommodation, from private homes to resort-style all-inclusive properties.
Dougaldston Spice Estate
Dougalston Spice Estate, an old plantation, still grows cocoa and Nutmeg traditionally. You can also take tours of the estate and buy spices.
BB’s Crabback Restaurant
Grenada’s delicious cuisine infused with spices is a must-try. These are five fantastic places to eat when in Grenada. You can be sure of fresh, local cuisine wherever you dine at Granada. You can find fish, Lobster, and crab on all menus, along with steak, chicken, and other meats.
The BB’s Crabback menu is full of Caribbean favorites. The whole Lobster Calypso is worth it. You will be delighted by the generous lobster meal, which is seasoned with red, green, and yellow peppers in an orange and saffron sauce.
Secret Harbour Restaurant & Cocktail Bar
The Secret Harbour Restaurant is a great place to eat. There are many seafood appetizers, such as crab cakes and crispy shrimp. You can also find mains like steak frites or red snapper. You can also enjoy delicious local craft cocktails.
Belmont Estate Restaurant
Enjoy lunch at Belmont Estates after your tour. You will be served a three-course meal: soup, fish, rice, and salads. You will be satisfied with the quality of everything grown on the estate.
Enjoy one of their delicious desserts after your meal, like a Nutmeg cake, Chocolate ice cream cake, or Nutmeg cake. The owners of Seventh-Day Adventists are prohibited from serving alcohol on the premises.
