TOP THINGS TO DO in SANTORINI (GREECE)
Santorini is Greece’s most loved destination. The volcanic island of Santorini, located in the Cyclades, is an ideal spot to see stunning sunsets and enjoy the famous blue-domed churches. These are the top things to do on Santorini in Greece if you have a bucket list item.
Top Things to Do in Santorini
Santorini is our favourite Greek island. Santorini is the perfect place to relax, have a romantic getaway, or enjoy the best Aegean Sea accommodations. We recommend spending more than one day in Santorini. Book a luxury cave hotel room with breathtaking views and a stunning infinity pool. Follow our Santorini guide, and you will fall in love with this magical island.
Oia Sunset
This is a must-see for everyone visiting Santorini. It was amazing! Oia, the most beautiful place on the island to see the sunset, is our favourite spot.
The perfect combination of blue domes, whitewashed houses, and golden sunsets takes your breath away. It is extremely popular so you won’t be able to enjoy this spot by yourself. Seeing the island at least once a night is worth the effort.
We recommend heading to the main spot at Oia Castle for a classic shot. This famous shot features the windmills in the foreground, juxtaposed with the stunning sunset. For stunning sunsets, head to the Blue Domes if you’re looking for a quieter spot. It was more tranquil (as peaceful in Oia) and more picturesque.
The beautiful scene of the three blue domes in front is stunning. If you wander around the area, you will find other great vantage points, such as the 3 bells, which will offer incredible views. This is a must-do activity, no matter where you are located.
Our post, A Photography guide to Santorini, contains more information about how to get there and other great photo spots.
We recommend the Santorini Photographic Tour if you need some guidance in finding the best locations. You can personalize your guided tour to include the locations you wish to take the best photos.
Or take a sunset tour of Santorini, where you will learn all about Santorini wine and enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the stunning views.
Take A Sunset Caldera Cruise
The beauty of Santorini can only be appreciated if you can see it from the water. It is breathtaking to see the massive sea cliffs. You can also go snorkelling and visit lesser-known beaches. The tour featured a seafood buffet and sunset views. A wonderful crew also led it.
You can take a boat tour around Santorini. Get Your Guide offers several that you can book in advance and allow for cancellation. For the best views of the caldera, we recommend a sunset cruise. We took the highly-rated 3 pm departure Catamaran Tour to see the sunset from the boat and check out the hot springs. This is why it is one of the most popular attractions in Santorini.
Enjoy wine tasting
There are many wineries on Santorini, and they all exist on one island. A wine tour is a popular way to see more of Santorini while taking in the culture. After enjoying the sunset in Oia, we recommend taking a sunset wine tour with 8 tastings at 2 different Santorini wineries. While Santo Wines are the most popular, we prefer the Venetsanos Winery that you will visit on the above tour.
Hike from Fira to Oia
This hiking trail is a must-do when visiting Santorini. Since we were in Imerovigli then, we walked from Imerovigli and Oia. However, a hike from Fira and Oia was one of the most amazing things to do in Santorini. The village of Firostefani and Imerovigli will be open to you, allowing you to take in the stunning views from all sides of the caldera. It’s a great way to see the various villages and the views from the volcano.
We recommend Villa Renos Hotel, located in Fira. It offers private hot tubs with panoramic views of the Aegean sea and the volcano. View prices and availability on TripAdvisor/ Booking.
You can hike approximately 9.5km and take between 4 and 5 hours, depending on how many stops you make. Although it’s a mixture of up-and-down, most of it can be paved, so it’s not difficult. We recommend you walk from Fira towards Oia, so the views are right in front of your face. After you’re done, you can stop by Oia for a bite and watch the sunset before returning to your hotel.
Get Lost In Oia
Oia was a favourite place we spent much of our time exploring. Even if you don’t plan to stay in Oia, it’s worth spending the day exploring these side streets and hidden alleyways made of cobblestone. You can also shop and hop from cafe to café for delicious food.
While Oia is where you will find the most famous views of Santorini, there are many other views available if you go off the beaten track. Oia is the place to find the famous blue-domed churches and windmills. There are many other photo opportunities.
